The Elms Hotel & Spa in Excelsior Springs, Missouri has recently completed multimillion-dollar renovations to its guestrooms, lobby, spa, ballroom, fitness center, outdoor space and dining areas. To add to its list of perks beyond the upgrades, the property, which has 11,000 square feet of meeting space and revitalized ballrooms, is now also offering a variety of new relaxing, culinary and immersive experiences for meeting breaks. Gatherings are welcome to the indoor spaces or on the 16 acres of hotel grounds on the patio, pool deck, fire pit area or gazebo.
The immersive experiences include paranormal tours in the hotel; cigar rolling class; a live chef demonstration; a midday mocktail experience and mixology class. The relaxation experiences include fireside hangouts such as a bonfire or s’mores making; movie on the lawn; grotto access in the award-winning spa; mini spa treatments; yoga session and instructor-led meditation in the meditation garden. For competitive fun, there are lawn games such as cornhole, giant Jenga, ping pong and more; and lobby games such as chess, checkers, and dominos.
All meeting breaks must be scheduled at least one week in advance arranged through an Event Planning Manager and are subject to availability.
The hotel’s upgrades, designed by Meri Meis, span the entirety of the 153-room property and have been underway since late 2020. Newly added spaces include the Café Soterian and The Market, both located in the lobby. The Café Soterian serves Elms Blend coffee drinks, smoothies, pastries and lunch offerings daily, and at night transforms into a wine bar serving craft beers, flatbread pizzas and more. The Market provides guests a space to shop for sweet treats and purchase souvenirs to commemorate their trip to Excelsior Springs.
Spa at The Elms introduced a new "sanctuary space" providing clients an area to unwind ahead of treatments. Seating is conducive for solo guests or groups, offering an array of seating options for lounging. Once in the spa, guests also have access to new VIP treatment rooms. All of the spa upgrades were conceptualized in tandem with Spa Director Marissa Krems, ensuring that the space is tailored to the needs of spa clientele. Guests can also enjoy the new mud bar where they can exfoliate and experience the natural healing properties present in the mineral-enriched mud. In the outdoor grotto area outside of the spa, a new zen garden allows guests a space to retreat and reflect. Guests are invited to join a complimentary class on Wednesdays and Fridays where they can connect with nature in the meditation garden.
To accompany the enhancements, the spa menu has been updated to include brand-new suite experiences.
The ballroom, an event space for weddings and other large-scale events, was updated while keeping in mind the traditional details that enhance its character. Meis brought in subtle gray tones to modernize the space while retaining the historic feel and designed a custom carpet with a non-repeating pattern, making the space appropriate for one-of-a-kind events and ensuring cohesion with the rest of the hotel.
Additional upgrades to the property include a refinished indoor lap pool; updates to the fitness center including new workout equipment from Peloton; the incorporation of the lobby’s colors and styles to the boardrooms and meeting spaces; updated furniture and décor in The Tavern, the property’s cocktail bar serving a variety of pub fare and bar snacks; and re-conception of Three Owls (formerly The 88 Restaurant), serving traditional American flavors and locally-sourced farm-to-table specialties.
