Panama Promotes MICE Offerings at IBTM Americas 2022

PROMTUR Panama is participating in IBTM Americas 2022 being held in Mexico City on August 24-25. The destination marketing organization is reinforcing its strategy for promoting events through an incentive program, which offers meeting and convention planners comprehensive service support to create authentic tourist experiences in the region.

Per Fernando Fondevila, general director of PROMTUR Panama, “Our fully dedicated team takes great pride in offering industry meeting planners significant support, unmatched in the region, including everything from a wide variety of products and services to ease of transportation and opportunities to explore the wealth of our culture and biodiversity—all of which make any event in the country a unique and incomparable experience.”

Since the launch of its new incentive program, the country has attracted several international conventions and events such as FIEXPO, SAHIC, ATTA and AR Adventure and association’s congresses. PROMTUR Panama supports these events with inspection visits, airport transfers and welcome receptions. It also offers tourist experiences such as visits to the Biomuseo, Plaza Mayor Museum and the Panama Interoceanic Canal Museum. The most successful experiences include, among others, the connection with nature in the Emberá Querá indigenous community, visits to the jungle with expeditions to Lake Gatún, the walk through the Metropolitan Natural Park to enjoy the forest and its  wildlife, as well as the zipline in Gamboa. Signature experiences include the Panama Canal and a tour of Panama City.

Besides the incentive plan, the country’s promotion strategy to bring the MICE sector to levels higher than those of the pre-pandemic era highlights the ease of connection for all of North, Central and South America and the Caribbean.

The new Panama Convention Center further strengthens the country’s offer as a strong player in the region for the MICE sector. Located on the Pacific Ocean at the entrance to the Panama Canal, it has an exhibition hall spanning 165764 square feet, 16 meeting rooms and the capacity to accommodate up to 23,000 people.

According to the Tocumen International Airport, Panama is heading towards a quick and clear recovery with data that prevents a possible closure of the year 2022 with more than 13 million passengers, a figure very close to the 2019 record.
