Fort Lauderdale Resort "Reborn" Amid $1 Billion Redevelopment Project

Pier Sixty-Six Resort, the centerpiece of a $1 billion redevelopment project by Tavistock Development Company, is set to be "reborn" in fall 2024. The 32-acre waterfront resort complex along the Intracoastal Waterway is being refurbished and, upon opening, the development will become the social harbor of Fort Lauderdale with a marina, luxury resort, F&B experiences, a marina promenade with waterfront shops and al fresco dining, as well as the property’s first residential offerings.

The site was a fuel dock for Phillips 66 Petroleum in the 1950s along the Intracoastal Waterway, where eventually a marina was created. In the 1960s, the Pier Sixty-Six hotel and iconic spire-tower was built.

The redevelopment project is being led by HKS Architects, NELSON Worldwide and Garcia Stromberg. Each of Pier Sixty-Six’s new waterfront structures will be equipped with cantilevered balconies and exteriors that resemble coral and sand dunes. The spire tower will be fully restored; the interiors will have a contemporary design, airy ambiance, neutral color palette and floor-to-ceiling windows. The resort’s common areas will utilize View Smart Windows, where guests and visitors alike will notice the use of artificial intelligence to automatically adjust and tint in response to outdoor conditions, resulting in guests staying cool and comfortable without the need for blinds.

Each of the 325 rooms and suites at the resort will have modern luxury touches. Future guests can expect a 15,000-square-foot spa, Technogym-powered fitness center, multi-level pool, over 40,000 square feet of entertainment and meeting space, a marina promenade and one of the largest superyacht marinas on the eastern seaboard.

Pier Sixty-Six will also introduce 12 culinary venues. Additionally, the rotating Pier Top lounge will also be restored. It is the only 17th-floor observation deck showing 360-degree views of the Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal Waterway and downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The resort’s new indoor and outdoor venue selections will span more than 40,000 square feet. With its debut in 2024, the property will be among the largest resort event spaces in Fort Lauderdale and one of the few resort destinations in Broward County with such a vast array of meeting and event space.

In addition to the new resort, the destination also includes the property’s first residential offerings. The Residences at Pier Sixty-Six includes a collection of 91 private residences across two 11-story condominium buildings and two four-story resort residence buildings. The first Residences at Pier Sixty-Six are projected to be completed in 2024, coinciding with the debut of the revitalized Pier Sixty-Six Resort.

Pier Sixty-Six's marina has 164 deepwater slips for yachts up to 400 feet. This is Fort Lauderdale’s best access to the ocean, with 5,000 linear feet of dockage. The marina remains open throughout construction.
