VBCC and Sodexo Live! Team up to Serve Hampton Roads Community

The Virginia Beach Convention Center (VBCC) and Sodexo Live!, its exclusive food and beverage supplier, have joined hands to prepare 1,500 servings of soup for local shelters and service providers. Led by Desiree Neal, VBCC’s executive chef, the “Big Soup Servathon” event was part of the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation and its ongoing mission to end hunger and address food insecurity. Servathon is Sodexo’s largest global volunteer event held in April and May every year.

The VBCC’s 1,500 servings of soup were provided to the Salvation Army ARC in Virginia Beach; Soup Kitchen in Norfolk; Union Mission in Norfolk; and Judeo-Christian Outreach Center in Virginia Beach.

“Putting our team’s culinary talents to work feeding our neighbors helped us extend meaningful connections within the Hampton Roads community,” said Bryan Miller, general manager, VBCC. “We were grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation on the ‘Big Soup Servathon’ outreach event this year.”

This event complements the Virginia Beach Convention Center and Sodexo Live!’s ongoing efforts to support charitable programming in the local community. Previous initiatives include book and toy drives, facilitating charitable programming with visiting conference groups, and donating thousands of pounds of surplus food each year.

The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation empowers its employees around the world to join forces, engage their teams and fight hunger in their local communities. This is done through service, skilled volunteerism, fundraising and activities that go beyond food aid. Participating in a Servathon activity is a great engagement and team-building tool. The foundation, as part of its mission to stamp out child hunger, identifies underserved cities across the U.S., in need of support, and find alignment between existing, successful service offerings and communities in need. The foundation distributed more than 4,100,000 meals during 2020.
